Turner-Roberts Recreation Center | Reconstruction

Austin, TX

The original Turner-Roberts Recreation Center opened in 2008 but was forced to close in 2011 due to structural failures. The original gym – designed and built by other firms – was demolished; and the City of Austin contracted Jackson Galloway Associates to lead the design team for its reconstruction.

Energy-efficient component selection, and a north-south building orientation with shade and natural daylighting make this building a good steward of its resources.

The new Rec Center re-opened in 2013 and now serves the East Austin community as a valuable and positive resource.
