Founded in 1896, St. Paul Catholic Church in Smithville launched the first phase of an ambitious 120-year anniversary capital campaign in 2015, starting with the acquisition of additional property and the construction of a new prayer garden. JGA was tasked with providing a campus master plan to provide cohesion to the growing campus and designing a parish office and chapel. The chapel and office were separated, allowing the chapel to align with the axis of the garden and welcome visitors passing by on the adjacent main street through town. The chapel is designed as a scaled-down companion to complement the historic church, now a century old. The parish office presents a friendly and locally familiar residential look as a nod to the homes that previously stood in its place, and as a welcoming gesture of integration into the surrounding neighborhood.
