First Baptist Church San Marcos

San Marcos, TX

First Baptist Church San Marcos engaged JGA to develop a master plan for a 76-acre new site in the middle of a rapidly growing region of southwest San Marcos. The over 150-year-old community had previously been worshipping for 75 years in a traditional church building downtown. JGA designed the 45,000 SF multipurpose building, which includes the light-filled initial phase worship center that will eventually serve as the fellowship hall, two-story great hall and foyer, administrative offices, nursery, children's classrooms, adult meeting rooms, and youth room. An amphitheater / plaza serves at the centerpiece to connect the covered walkways along the back of the building that will eventually connect all future buildings around the courtyard. The architectural style blends the best components of rustic an ecclesiastical language, with repeating themes of simple gables and rounded arches, heavy timber framing, and local limestone.
