We believe that authenticity arises from using materials appropriate to the project’s function, environment, and local building traditions. When we travel to Santa Fe, New Mexico, we enjoy the uniqueness of pueblo-inspired architecture found there. The local material—mud, or adobe—is well suited to hot days and cool nights, and the forms fit well with the landscape. We don’t want, nor do we expect to see the glass skyscrapers of New York City there. Likewise, when people in central Texas build with local materials using local traditions, an architectural legacy unique to central Texas will live on.
