First Baptist Church | Children's Building
The second of JGA’s new building projects for First Baptist Church Georgetown was a 3-story Children’s Education Building, fused to the existing church campus by a two-story indoor playground. The design approach was to start with the campus’ existing vocabulary of materials and traditional form, and introduce playful departures to highlight the youthful energy housed inside.
The first two stories are dedicated to elementary age children, and the third story is set aside for Jr. and Sr. High kids. Each floor features an assembly room. The third floor Assembly room is the largest, with seating capacity for 170, a stage for a full band, a tech booth, kitchen and bistro area. The second floor Assembly has sloped floor theatre-style seating and A/V systems. The first floor Assembly opens onto the playground through two large coiling garage doors.
